Yakovlev fighters

Five airplanes developed by Yakovlev design bureau are introduced on this page. One of them is the experimental test fighter I-26. The I-26 aircraft was a prototype for all serial pruduction Yakovlev fighters. Other four planes are Yak-1, Yak-3, Yak-7 and Yak-9. These are major types of Russian fighters which participated in air military actions during the WWII

Yakovlev-1 is a serial production version of I-26 test fighter. It reproduced all basic features of the I-26. A few modifications were introduced, which concerned fuselage shape, armament, engine etc. Follow the link for details

Yakovlev-7 was created on the basis af the two-pilot trainer fighter Yak-7 UTI. It was used in military actions as a fighter, reconnaissance plane and trainer for quick adaptation of learner pilots to fly a combat fighter. Follow the link for details.

Yakovlev-3 was designed as further development af Yak-1 and Yak-9 aiming to improve flight performance. Major changes include the reduced wing area, decreased weight, improved aerodynamics and as a result increased speed and maneuverability. Follow the link for details.
